LunetaView Help

Easy set up

  1. Install the latest version of LunetaView on your iPhone and Mac/iPad.

  2. Check to make sure your iPhone and Mac/iPad are logged into the same Apple ID.

  3. Choose one of the following:

    1. Direct connect using a cable (recommended): On your iPhone, turn on “Airplane Mode”, then connect your iPhone to your Mac using a cable.

    2. Or connect tirelessly through a network: On your iPhone, turn off “Airplane mode”. Next, make sure your iPhone and Mac/iPad are connected to the same network. (Using this option, there will be a lag between your interactions with LunetaView and what you see on the screen.)

  4. Place your iPone on a phone stand directly over the material you wish to magnify.

Starting LunetaView

  1. Start LunetaView on your iPhone and select “Camera”.

  2. Start LunetaView on your Mac or iPad and select “Viewer”..

  3. When a popup appears on your Mac/iPAD, you will see the name of your iPhone under “CHOOSE 1 INVITE”. Select your iPhone’s name.

Within a few seconds you will see the image from your iPhon’s camera appear on your viewer’s screen.

LunetaView Buttons

Note: Depending on your setup and the capabilities of your devices, some of the following buttons may not be available to you (for example, if the device you use as the camera does not have a light, the light button will not be available.)

Zoom In

Each time you tap the zoom in button (or use the ‘i’ keyboard shortcut), LunetaView will increase the zoom level.  

Zoom Out

Each time you tap the zoom out button (or use the ‘o’ keyboard shortcut), LunetaView will decrease the zoom level.

Light

You can toggle your camera’s light on and off by using this button on the viewer. The keyboard shortcut is the ‘l’ key.

Stabilization

By toggling this on, you provide for a steadier image, but with a cost. There will be a delay between moving something underneath the camera and when you see it move on the screen. The keyboard shortcut for stabilization is the ‘s’ key.

Filters

Each time you tap the filter button, LunetaView will apply a different image filter, eventually cycling back to no filters being applied. The filter keyboard shortcut is the spacebar.

Help

Displays this help page. The keyboard shortcut is the ‘?’ key.

Exit

This button will exit the camera or viewer. The keyboard shortcut is the ‘x’ key.

Gestures

To perform the following gestures, you can use a finger on your iPad or use your Mac’s mouse by clicking and dragging.

Zoom In

Drag one finger (or the mouse) up towards the top of the screen. The further you drag the faster the zoom. Holding your finger (or mouse button) down even after you stop moving will continue the zoom.  

Zoom Out

Drag one finger (or the mouse) down towards the bottom of the screen. The further you drag the faster the zoom. Holding your finger (or mouse button) down even after you stop moving will continue the zoom.

Brighten The Screen

On an iPad, drag one finger towards the right side of the screen. The further you drag the brighter the screen will become. On a Mac, use the screen brighten button on the keyboard.

Dim The Screen

On an iPad, drag one finger (or the mouse) towards the left side of the screen. The further you drag the dimmer the screen will become. On a Mac, use the screen dim button on the keyboard.

Light

Double-tap (or click) the screen to toggle your camera’s light.

Stabilization

Triple-tap or click the screen to enable/disable stabilization.

Filters

Single-tap or click the screen to cycle through the filters.
